Sweet 16 matches

Philly Region

Cafe Carmela vs The Sidecar Bar & Grille

2024 March Cheesesteak Madness

Philly Region – Sweet 16 match-up

Who knew it would be the tale of two cities.  I don’t like answering ‘Who has the best the cheesesteak?’ with ‘what are you doing?’  But, this match shows that there is a ‘best’ cheesesteak for different situations.  Cafe Carmela, a very good upgraded traditional cheesesteak vs a neighborhood bar cheesesteak riding a wave of cheesey aioli too early round success.

Avenue Steaks & Pizza vs Tony & Nick’s Steaks

2024 March Cheesesteak Madness

Philly Region – Sweet 16 match-up

The Battle of Oregon Ave.  The Battle of new old school vs straight up old school.  This was a very close match.  I am obviously the person who videoed the judging.  But, while watching the judging while putting this video together, I was surprised at who won.  Avenue Steaks is the Cinderella story of 2024 March Cheesesteak Madness.  Tony & Nick’s is doing a great job representing the old school Philly cheesesteak joints.

New Jersey/Delaware region

Lillo’s Tomato Pies vs Ry & Howie’s Steaks & Hoagies

2024 March Cheesesteak Madness

New Jersey/Delaware Region – Sweet 16 match-up

The battle for New Jersey cheesesteak supremacy!!  Another great Sweet 16 matchup!!  Lillo’s Tomato Pies burst onto the cheesesteak scene 3ish years ago.  Ry & Howie’s burst onto the cheesesteak scene this past year.  An earthquake, an eclipse and now the center of the cheesesteak world could be shifting to New Jersey!?!?!?!?  Very close match.  I think these two will be seeing each other in March Cheesesteak Madness for many years to come.

Nick’s Pizza vs Scalessa’s My Way Old School Italian Kitchen

2024 March Cheesesteak Madness

New Jersey/Delaware Region – Sweet 16 match-up

The Battle for Delaware Cheesesteak Supremacy.  The new kid on the block, Nick’s Pizza, versus, the long standing Forty Acre favorite, Scalessa’s My Way Old School Italian Kitchen.  Scalessa’s limped into the sweet 16 while Nick’s has been rolling (see what I did there?) over the competition.  Spoiler alert; luckily I was at Wilmington Brew Works because this was a very close match.  Bonus spoiler alert and video; look inside an Italian Kitchen bonus video.

Delco + 6 region

Ugly Oyster Drafthaus vs Pop’s Pizzeria

2024 March Cheesesteak Madness

Delco + 6 Region – Sweet 16 match-up

2024 March cheesesteak Madness is making history.  Due to a scheduling conflict with Tony’s of West Reading, The Ugly Oyster Drafthaus is back in the tournament.  Can a cheesesteak come off the bench and win the tournament??  Their first opponent is a very formidable Pop’s Pizzeria.  Spoiler alert; split decision.

Steaks West Chester vs Delco Steaks

2024 March Cheesesteak Madness

Delco + 6 Region – Sweet 16 match-up

The Sweet 16 is getting off to a get start.  This is a great match between 2 very good cheesesteaks.  Luckily we had 2 very good judges, Dave & Phil.  As you know Phil and Dave love to talk.  This video is edited much differently than other videos.  Spoiler alert!!  Split decision!!  If you want to see more of Steaks West Chester and Delco Steaks, contestant videos are on MarchCheesesteakMadness.com and Philadelphia Cheesesteak Adventure YouTube channel.  I made playlists so they are easier to find.

Other Counties region

Verona Pizza vs Johnny’s Pizza of Bryn Mawr

2024 March Cheesesteak Madness

Other counties Region – Sweet 16 match-up

I have been saying it for 3 years.  Every year The Other Counties region adds new places that make very good cheesesteaks.  Verona and Johnny’s are relatively new to the cheesesteak scene.  Both make very good cheesesteaks.  Wait until you see them in the video next to each other.  I don’t think the roll is the most important part of cheesesteak but it played a big role in this match.  Roll video.  Food puns, you have to roll with them!!

DiBruno Bros vs Goombas Pizzaria

2024 March Cheesesteak Madness

Other Counties Region – Sweet 16 match-up

Very good match between two very different cheesesteaks.  In an earlier round, I was told on social media that I sold out to fancy cheeses and spreads.  I think I have grown into fancy cheeses and spreads.  Now we get to see what happens when DiBruno Bros’ fancy cheeses and spreads run into an old school cheesesteak from Goombas.  Roll video!!
